French Time resources for Upper Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (KS2 / KS3). Plan a unit of lessons on Telling the Time in French (L’heure) / Clocks in French (Les Horloges) with this big bundle of reading, writing, speaking and listening activities: vocabulary support pages, differentiated worksheets and puzzles, a detailed lesson presentation, interactive games, flashcards, printable games and activities. Includes 12 AND 24 hour time separately, analogue and digital clocks, in quarter hour and 5 minute intervals. Also includes questions and sentences, linked to sporting activities, opening hours and aspects of daily routine.
These French basics resources are made for students beginning French and near beginners in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the previews to see a large sample of the resources. All resources are in PDF, apart from the presentation, which is in PowerPoint / PPT (but also included in PDF). Over 160 pages and 110 slides.
The 3 included resource packs are also available separately.
FRENCH TELLING THE TIME PRESENTATIONS AND INTERACTIVE GAMES:
In addition to introducing key vocabulary and phrases, this presentation includes activities such as:
Practice slides with digital and analogue clocks
Oral activities using time in context
6 rounds of an interactive Hexagons Game (where teams compete to translate vocab and phrases and make a path through the grid) - includes two rounds where time is to the nearest minute instead of 5 minute intervals, to stretch groups needing more challenge.
16 rounds of an interactive Reveal the Picture Game (where teams compete to remove parts of a grid to reveal the hidden time in the image)
Please note that most of the text in the PowerPoint is editable, however the images are not. Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. Please note that the Hexagons and Reveal the Picture games are not compatible with PDF and are therefore omitted from that version.
A PDF file of flashcards / word wall cards for 12-hour time is also included in the Zip file.
FRENCH TELLING THE TIME WORKSHEETS AND PUZZLES:
SUPPORT PAGES: Word mats to display or print for students who require it, for 12 and 24-hour time, and in black and white too. Please note that these support pages are also contained in my printable games packet for this topic.
WORKSHEETS: 10 worksheets (with answer keys), all in both 12 AND 24-hour versions, and all differentiated at least two ways using a star system. The 1-star version is the least challenging, for lower ability, younger or less experienced students and almost all of these focus on quarter hour intervals. Many of the 2-star worksheets are in five minute intervals. For Worksheet 4, the 1-star version is in five minute intervals and the 2-star is to the nearest minute, to provide variety and extra challenge. The two “À quelle heure…?” worksheets (Les Activités / Le Transport) are differentiated 3 ways.
PUZZLES: There’s an airport puzzle, hidden word puzzle, and maze. The airport puzzle is differentiated; the other two are not. The maze also does not have a 24h version.
FRENCH TELLING THE TIME PRINTABLE GAMES:
Four in a Row: There are 4 boards: word version and digital ones for both the 12 and 24-hour clocks. Print and laminate the ones you want for repeated use with dry-wipe markers. Enlarge if using with larger groups. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Dice required.
“J’ai…Qui a…?” Loop Game: A speaking game for groups or the whole class. Print and laminate for repeated use. The 36 cards form a continuous loop so it doesn’t matter which one you start with. There are 3 versions – the first has an analog clock, the second has a digital clock, while the third version features French 24-hour time.
Active Oral Game: Ideal for the whole class. Print and laminate the cards. Students walk around the room, asking and answering what time it is in French, using the time printed on their cards. The first pair to find the matching cards wins. There are 2 versions: an analog clock version for 12-hour time and a digital one you can use for 24-hour time.
Serpents et Echelles Board Game: Print and laminate the board. It works like normal Chutes and Ladders / Snakes and Ladders, only with students calling out French words when they land on them. Answer key included.
Sentences Board Game: Fun for oral practice. Board 1 is a simpler, 12-hour digital version, just in quarter hour intervals. Board 2 is for analog 12-hour time in 5 minute intervals and board 3 is for 24-hour time. Print and laminate. Instructions on board. Answer key included.
Square Jigsaw: Laminate and cut the 16 puzzle pieces or have students cut up the black and white version. For an extra challenge, the letters on the outside edge of the puzzle form a related sentence. 2 versions, one for 12-hour time and one for 24-hour time. Students match analog clocks or digital times with French word version of time.
Counter Throw Time Target Game: Combines math and French! Students throw a counter onto target each round and add elapsed time to their card in a race to finish a 10-step journey in the shortest time. They must read aloud their new time in French at each stage. Black and white target included.
Full game instructions included.

For KS2 or KS3, this is a French FSL PowerPoint lesson presentation (also in PDF format) and flash cards for a Les Moyens de Transport or Les Véhicules en Français (Means of Transport / Vehicles in French) vocabulary unit. There are 120+ slides to introduce and practice key vocabulary and phrases, and there are activities and fun interactive games. My French basics / beginners resources are designed for Year 4, 5, 6 and 7 (and equivalents in other countries) but might suit others, depending on experience. Please see the samples in the previews to check if this will be suitable. Within the Zip file is the original Powerpoint version, plus an additional PDF version and a PDF file of flash cards. Due to a small number of differences between UK and US (‘lorry’ is changed to ‘truck’ and ‘van’ is replaced by the very common ‘pick-up truck’ etc), there are additional US versions of all resources also in the Zip file. The word ‘transportation’ replaces ‘transport’ in the US versions too.
Includes a core range of 18 transport types: plane, bicycle, boat, bus, car, campervan, by foot, helicopter, horseback, hot air balloon, lorry, motorbike, ship, submarine, taxi, tractor, train and van. An additional 10 transport types are also introduced and appear in some of the activities.
SAVE by getting this as part of a French Transport BUNDLE , which also includes:

18-round Kim’s Game (memory game), where an image is removed each round
Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click
Additional PDF version included
While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will help you teach this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work.
Hexagons Game is not compatible with PDF and is omitted from that version
Also within the Zip file is a PDF of flash cards, featuring all 28 transport types taught in the presentation, 2 to a page

UPDATES AND NEW CONTENT!
More content may be added to this Mega Bundle in the future (which you can download for free if you have already purchased it), but as of April 2020, it contains 77 games (about 490 pages).
Each pack in this Mega Bundle has multiple activities in them, to take the stress out of lesson planning and to return to again and again over the years.
Some games contain differentiated versions and you can differentiate many of them further by using the printable word mats and vocabulary lists (included in many of the files) to support students who require this.
Instructions for games are included, usually in the Teacher Notes section at the back of most files but some games have separate printable game cards or have instructions printed directly on them, especially if they are a little more complicated.
Ideal for main lesson tasks, sub lessons, starters, early finishers etc.
Please note that preparation is required for most games. This is mostly laminating (if you wish to use again) and some games require cutting (jigsaw puzzles, card games etc).
If you find yourself short of time and don’t mind skipping the laminating, there are plenty of games here which you can just print and use with no preparation.
Includes the following game types:
Four in a Row
Serpents et Echelles (Snakes and Ladders)
Other board games
Active card games
Bingo / Noughts and Crosses cards
Human bingo
Jigsaw Puzzles
‘I Have…Who Has?’ / Loop games
Happy Families
Counter Throw
Battleships-style grid games
Pairs
And more!
Many thanks for your interest in my resources.

Speaking activities for a beginners French Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (KS2 / KS3) Greetings, Farewells and Introductions FSL unit (saying your name in French, saying your age, saying how you are, where you live, giving your nationality etc): A set of printable 24 role play / skits cards for Les Salutations et Je Me Presente or Introducing Myself. These resources will help you plan multiple lessons at Year 4, 5, 6 or 7 and equivalents. PDF format. Full instructions are included.
Children can pair up to translate the English into French. The English language sides are designed to be printed back-to-back with the appropriate translation for students to check. If preferred the translations could be printed as separate cards. I’ve included a vocabulary card, which can be provided for support where required.
This oral activity reinforces ways of saying ‘hello’ (Bonjour, Salut etc) and ‘goodbye’ (Au revoir etc) as well as asking and answering questions such as ‘Ca va?’ (How are you?), ‘Comment tu t’appelles?’ (What’s your name?), ‘Quel age as-tu?’ (How old are you?), ‘Ou habites-tu?’ (Where do you live?) and ‘Tu es de quelle nationalite?’ (What nationality are you?). It’s a good stepping stone to more independent role-playing activities.
